Strength training is one of the most important things you can do to improve your day to day life. As we age we are often told to stay away from strength training and to focus more on stretching or simply walking to get in our exercise. Although it is very important to stretch and move around every day it is just as important to do your daily barbell/dumbbell workouts. Here are a few reason to start focusing on your strength the older

  1. Bone health- Many studies have shown that strength/resistance training increases bone density, reduces the risks of osteoporosis and if done correctly can also decrease the effects of arthritis

  2. Testosterone- Almost every doctor and fitness trainer can agree that strength training will increase your testosterone levels too which in turn increases lean muscle gain. Having lean muscle will decrease your risk in injury and improve your metabolic rate. Also making you lose weight.

  3. The looks!!- As said previously said strength training can increase muscle gain which is not just safe for injury prevention but you will also look and feel better too. Also having a nice set of abs is always a good thing to see when you look in the mirror.

In conclusion strength training is probably the most important things you can do to your body to improve your day to day life if done correctly and don’t compare yourself to someone else. Just by coming to the gym you are already one step ahead of 90% of the population that stayed home.
